ZAC + STUFF = HERE

I am thinking of making a Mac Mini render farm. Great use at home, great use on the go.

At Home, I would have a Mac Mini connected to each TV, with one left over in my Room. That way, each computer could act as a media centre, sharing pictures, and ripped music and movies with each TV. At any time I wish to render files, each Mini would be utilised over the network.

When m on the move, I can just pack up the Minis and fit them in a suitcase, along with the network gear, and easily set up the render cluster in each location I stay. Fast Rendering on the go!

This would be a great, easily expandable solution! Smaller, cheaper and more useful than a Mac Pro!

Why? The PS3 doesnt have much going for it these days. Bluray aint that great, they are too expensive anyway. They have the same game catalogue as the Xbox. Well Xbox has more games. Its just not that great.

The 360 on the other hand has lots going for it. Zune integration, media extender (the PS3 did that mind you), more games. I mean, the software is amazing. The only thing keeping me back is the hardware. It is just too unreliable. They run hot and loud and the power supply is huuge. Im hoping for an updated model this year to replace the Elite: cooler, quieter and smaller. If they do that, you have my word, I WILL SELL MY PS3 AND BUY AN XBOX!

nuff said…The remote allowed me to have control over my Zune 8 when it’s Zune Pad wasnt working, which is mucht he same as the click wheel on an iPod not working…

Anyway, the remote is great because it allows you to navigate through the menus on your Zune fully. Kicker has done a great job and I cant recall another Zune or iPod dock that has this level of functionality in a remote.

Thats just one of many reasons why I never want to give up my zK500!

So now, 4 hours later I figured a few things out. UIButtons wont work for this, but I have a solution, which is good. I managed to create an app that allows you to drag one of several Images, and they move back to their original position when you stop dragging them. Simple enough. I made good use of Animations so the motions are fluid.

Im very happy with my progress tonight :) Now its time to set my goals for tomorrow…

Tonigh I am working on dragging images around the screen. Apple makes it easy enough just to get images to move when you touch them, but here is a list of things I want to get done tonight:

  1. Get the image to move back to its original position after being dragged
  2. Create a button in code, then get it to do the same as #1
  3. Create multiple buttons using the same method at #2

Hope I can get that all done in the next 4 hours :)

So very awesome :)

Today, I was on a boat. T-Pain wasn’t there. MLIA

For those of you who havent discovered the many uses for old apple boxes, this is the most simplistic and probably the best use for them.:)

In short: I like it, it looks good and works well. Not sure how much it costs though.
What is there to say about a USB hub? It looks like a shrunk down Mac Mini. The push mechanism works great, easy to push it up to gain access to all of the 2 USB ports and Card Reader (works withminiSD, CF, SD, MS, xD and MMC cards). The cable is about 1.5’ or 45cm long, so it is really meant for laptops, not desktops. Its not the smallest USB/Card Reader around, but it definitely looks great.
The light on the top makes it easy to determine whether or not the Push-Push is connected properly, which is always a good thing. Other people have said that their device connections have cut out, but for me I have had none of those problems and ive been using it for about 3 months now.
All in all, it is a sleek and functionaly sound device and is something I now carry around with my Macbook whenever I can.
